Return to Manila

Today I would begin the journey back to Manila leaving the beautiful mountains behind.

We stopped at a market for some food and to use the comfort room. I love mangos and they always taste much better in Southeast Asia. I finally figured out why, here they are sun ripened, in order to get them to the United States they pick them early and they ripen on the ship in route.

While this market had a lot of the same things it had something the others did not, at least I did not see this at the other markets. It had an official scale, so if you felt like you were being ripped off, you can double check on an independent scale.

In order to break up the journey we stopped at San Guillermo Church. Back in 1995 Mount Pinatubo erupted and buried the first half of it, including the town around it.

Filipinos are short but not this short.

We were just outside of Manila and made one last stop at the Manila American Cemetery, which is kind of like a miniature Arlington National Cemetery. While this was very cool to see, I didn’t really feel any connection to it, I didn’t know anyone who fought in World War I or II.

These walls were filled with the names of people they never found.

We spent the next hour traveling the remaining two miles to get to the hotel. Last time I was at the Hotel Jen it was for less than five hours, so it was nice to be able to check out the hotel. Nice big rooms with a comfy bed.

Once I was cleaned up I headed up to the lounge to enjoy a San Miguel and watch the traffic. They have a nice dental kit, perhaps I’ll grab a few for my guests back home. It’s a nice touch.
